Chapter 212: Eavesdropper Astrid's POV I almost choked in surprise when I heard Vanessa's words. I was just about to take a sip from my glass of wine when Vanessa blatantly said those words without even a bit of fear in her. I chuckled softly as I took the table napkin in front ofand softly dabbed my lips clean.

I had been secretly eavesdropping on their conversation the whole time. I remained close to their table, just near enough to hear what everyone was saying without them noticing me.

I was curious. I wanted to find out what their relationship with each other was, and now I finally found the answer that I was looking for.

It turns out I was right; Giselle used to live in the Crimsonbane Pack, which means she had a connection with Damien and Vanessa. However, there's something off between them.

There is certainly that hostility and tension going on between them, and judging by Vanessa's words just earlier, Giselle must have done something bad in the Crimsonbane Pack for Vanessa to hate her that much. I just wonder what that is.

"Autism is a complex neurological condition, and it's never anyone's fault," Giselle answered in a calm voice, which surprised me.

When did Giselle ever feel calm after receiving an insult? Giselle is a person who has never backed down to anyone. She's someone that you cannot mess with.

Yet, she was able to deflect Vanessa's insults just now without even feeling aggrieved about it.

My back straightened when something clicked in my head. I think Giselle had finally found her match.

She was so ruthless when it cto me, but to Vanessa, she couldn't even give her a comeback.

The moment that Giselle's eyes landed on Vanessa and Damien, I already sensed something different about her. She looked more afraid and fragile before them as if they could devour her at any moment.

I've seen Giselle's ruthless and unforgiving side, but this is the first tI saw her feeling uneasy and unconfident. It's as if Vanessa and Damien had power over her.

Whatever that is, I'm sure it has something to do with the twhen Giselle used to live at the Crimsonbane Pack.

It looks like Killian is unaware of it, or else he would have been too ashamed to call Giselle to meet the Alpha and Luna of the Crimsonbane Pack.

He would also be out of his mind to dare entertain the idea of his son and their daughter becoming mates in the future.

If Killian only had an inkling that there's tension between them, he would have never mentioned his idea of uniting their Packs together through marriage.

It seems that Vanessa and Damien are planning to keep things secret on Giselle's behalf.

If they had no plans of covering things up, they would have at least mentioned a thing or two to Killian.

Well, with Vanessa's words and temperament, it would be safe to say that Vanessa has the most grudge against Giselle, and she's most likely to tellthings Dwanted to know about her.

Fortunately, I had already formed a bond with her. All I had to do now was prove to her that she could trust me, and hopefully, that would be enough for her to spill the beans to me.

My eyes widened, and a smile formed on my face when I saw Drystan at the far corner of the venue with his eyes searching among the crowd. He must be looking for me.

I thought I wouldn't see him tonight.

The Nightsong Pack is not that far from the Shadowfang Pack, unlike all these other packs, which had to travel early to make sure that they would be here on tfor the ceremony.

I wonder why Drystan traveled here tonight just to seeand if he could just travel early tomorrow and be there in my ceremony.

I stood up and approached him excitedly. The moment he saw me, his face instantly brightened, and he walked forward to meethalfway.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

It's already late at night, so he could have used his tto get a well-rested sleep in his pack.

"Can I talk to you?" Drystan askedunsurely.

My brows pressed together when I noticed his troubled and unsure expression. "Why? What happened?" I asked him instantly as I wondered what could have possibly gone wrong.

"It's nothing like that," Drystan assuredwhen he saw

turning worried. Drystan looked around, his eyes landing on the m crowd of people. "Can we talk outside in private?" he askedpleadingly. I nodded my head, wondering what he possibly wanted to talk about. "Sure," I answered. "I know a place, no one should be there right now." I grabbed Drystan's hand and pulled him out of the venue towards the place that I was talking about.

Since Drystan wanted sprivacy.

The only place I could think of was the gazebo at the back of the garden. At night, it's very dark there, and no one passes by that area.

When we arrived, I dropped Drystan's hand and faced him. "What is it?" at his face, h Whispered as looked What is it?iл basking underneath a ray of moonlight. I paused when I noticed the flush of his cheeks. He swallowed hard as he burrowed the hand that I grabbed in his pocket.

As I stared at his hand, I was reminded of the confession that he made just a week ago.
